The Slovenian Arts Program was established in 1982 with the support from the Frank and Mary Ermenc Memorial Fund, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Foundation. The program operates under the auspices of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts. These funds make possible the largest collection of Slovenian music on the American continents (located at the UWM Golda Meir Library), and programs of music, dance, lectures and films.
The Slovenian Arts Program is directed by the Slovenian Arts Council, a representative group from the Slovenian - American community in the Milwaukee area. The Slovenian Arts Council plans various programs, in coordination with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts, to present the Slovenian arts to the Slovenian community and the community at large.
Last week, we welcomed Slovenian artist Eva Petrič to Milwaukee and unveiled her Bird of Hope For Peace lace artwork at City Hall. This stunning piece "aims to convey a universal message of human interconnectedness, compassion, tragedy, resilience, war and peace." (Urban Milwaukee article link). What's also special is that it's conveyed through lace, which is one of the most widespread crafts of Slovenia. We appreciate the Ermenc Slovenian Arts Fund, International Institute of Wisconsin, and all other contributers who have made this possible!

Through its grants and awards, the Milwaukee Slovenian Arts Program recognizes individuals and organizations that preserve, advance, and celebrate Slovenian arts and culture. These programs honor cultural leadership, support emerging artists and students, and help bring Slovenian artistic traditions to audiences throughout the community.
